Annelies Marie Frank (1929-1945) was a German-born diarist and writer. She is one of the most discussed Jewish victims of the Holocaust Her diary, The Diary of a Young Girl, which documents her life in hiding during the German occupation of the Netherlands in World War II, is one of the world's most widely known books and has been the basis for several plays and films.

1. Who was Anne Frank?
Answer: Annelies Marie Frank (1929-1945) was a German-born diarist and writer. She is one of the most discussed Jewish victims of the Holocaust. She had to go into hiding during World War II to avoid the Nazis. 

2. Why did Anne find it strange to write a diary?
Answer: Anne found it strange writing a diary, not only because she had never written anything before but also because in future neither she herself nor anyone else would be interested in the musings of a thirteen-year old school girl. 

3. What did Peter use to cushion the low doorway?
Answer: While going down the stairs all people in hiding had to duck and then jump which resulted in bumps on everyone foreheads from banging their heads against the low doorway. Peter cushioned it by nailing a towel stuffed with woods having to the doorframe.

4. How were the Jews treated in the concentration camps?
Answer: The people in concentration camps got almost nothing to eat, much less to drink as, water was available only one hour a day. There was only one toilet and sink for several thousand people. Men and women slept in the same room. The heads of women and children were shaved but escape was impossible.

1. Who received the call-up notice from the SS?
Answer: Anne's father, Otto Frank received a call-up notice from the Secret Service (SS). A call-up notice meant that the person with his or her entire family was headed to the concentration camps. Death was inevitable at these concentration camps because of the atrocities carried out there. On receipt of the call-up notice the Frank family along with Van Daan's went into hiding.

2. What did Mr. Voskuijl do?
Answer: Mr Voskuijl was responsible for the carpentry work done in the Secret Annex. He built a bookcase in front of the entrance to the annex. It swung out on its hinges and opened like a door. Mr Voskuijl knew that seven people were hiding in the annex.

3. Why were the seven of them scared on October 20th, 1942?
Answer: On October 20, a man came to fill the extinguishers, the office staff somehow forgot to inform the Franks and Van Daans about it. When after working for about 15 minutes, he began knocking, pulling, pushing or jerking on the door, the hidden people turned white with fear. They thought that their secret hiding place was discovered.

4. What did Anne hope would happen in the end?
Answer: With the passage of time Anne began to lose hope. She realised the world being transformed into wilderness which will destroy everything. But, when she looked up at the sky, she somehow felt that everything will change for the better. She hoped that the Nazis cruelty will end and that peace and tranquility will return once more.

1. Describe the Secret Annexe.
Answer: A wooden staircase led from the downstairs hallway to the third floor. At the top of the stairs was a landing, with doors on either side. The right hand door led to the secret Annex at the back of the house. A small step ahead was a steep flight of stairs. There were small rooms which doubled up as living cum bedrooms. There was a windowless washroom too. 

2. Why did Anne feel wicked sleeping in a warm bed?
Answer: Anne felt wicked sleeping in a warm bed because the thought of her missing near and dear ones made her guilt conscious. She realised that somewhere out in the concentration camps, one of her loved ones might be dropping from exhaustion or being knocked to the ground by the cruel Nazis.

3. Why didn't Anne care whether she lived or died?
Answer: After a year in hiding Anne had reached a point where she hardly cared whether she lived or died. She realised that the world will keep on turning without her. The fact that she can't do anything to change the events around her also made her give up on some miracle happening in the near future.
