SHORT ANSWER QUESTIONS

E. Answer each question in 50-60 words.

1. What was the giant carrying when he took Sophie?
Answer: When the giant snatched away Sophie from her bed he was carrying a
thin, long trumpet and a large suitcase. He later told Sophie that he used the trumpet to blow lovely golden dreams over sleeping children. In the suitcase he carried bottles of dreams which he had caught floating around in the air.

2. How did the giant blow dreams?
Answer: The giant had big ears which made his hearing more sensitive than a human's. He could easily hear the silvery soft, buzzy-hum of the dreams floating in the air. He caught them in his net, bottled and labelled them, and then through his thin trumpet blew them over the sleeping children.

3. How did the giant's huge ears help him?
Answer: The giant's huge ears were ultra-sensitive given their big size. He told Sophie that he could hear the ladybug walking across a leaf, the screaming of a plant, the moaning of a tree and even the silvery soft hum of a dream float by in a bubble. So, whenever he hears a dream float by, he picks up his net which is attached to a thirty feet long pole and nets and bottles the dreams.

Answer: The BFG did not have a good opinion about humans. According to him they were good for nothing, cowardly people, who on the contrary thought very highly about themselves. The worst thing was that they refused to believe in something till the time they saw it in front of their eyes.

LONG ANSWER QUESTIONS

F. Answer each question in 60-80 words.

1. How was the BFG different from other giants?
Answer: BFG was different from other giants as he was a friendly giant. The other giants of the world were cannibals, who preferred to eat human beings for their meals. To pick up their meals they wandered all over the world. The BFG on the other hand, made children happy by giving them beautiful dreams. His only connection to human beings was that he blew dreams over sleeping children.

2. What would happen if people saw giants? What would they do to the giants?
Answer: According to the BFG in the story, if people saw giants they will go crazy. They will be afraid of them because some giants treated them as food. In their fear and ignorance they will want to capture the giants and put them in zoo with other animals for other humans to see as well. This, the BFG was sure that none of the giants wanted.

3. What did Sophie see in the jar?
Answer: In the jar Sophie saw the faint translucent outline of something about the size of a hen's egg. There was just a touch of colour in it, a pale sea-green, soft and shimmering and very beautiful. The dream lay, quite peaceful, but pulsing gently, as though it were breathing.
