The people were puzzled and asked about the purpose of the procession. Tenali announced, "The king's most precious possession is his hay, and it's so valuable that we're parading it through the city!"

News of this spread, and soon traders arrived from distant lands, willing to pay exorbitant amounts for the "valuable" hay. The kingdom's treasury was replenished, and the financial crisis was averted.
